Governor

Gov. Mitch Daniels was elected governor in 2004 after a distinguished career in private business and public service. He served as the director of the Office of Management and Budget under Pres. Bush from 2001 until 2003, when he returned to Indiana. Although not an Indiana native, Gov. Daniels has been a Hoosier since grade school. His undergraduate degree is from Princeton Univ. and his law degree is from Georgetown Univ. Gov. Daniels is married to Cheri; they have four daughters. Read more about Gov. Daniels.

Indiana General Assembly

The Indiana General Assembly consists of two houses, the House of Representatives with 100 members and the Senate, which has 50 members. The two houses meet every year beginning the Tuesday after the second Monday in January, or in special sessions as called by the governor.

U.S. Senate

Indiana is represented by one Democrat and one Republican in the U.S. Senate.

Sen. Evan Bayh was elected in 1998 after serving as both Indiana Secretary of Stat and Governor. He was born in Shirkleville.

The VCPL has served the residents for more than 120 years. The system includes the main library and four branches. Borrowing is free for Vigo Country residents and there are no fines for overdue materials.
